Solar Panels - Some Tips For the Best Energy Production
By Jared Owen

There are a variety of different solar panels available and whether you have chosen to buy or build, you will want to know as much about these systems as possible to ensure that you are getting the right one for you.

What are Solar PV Panels Made of?

The most important material used in solar PV panels is silicon. Depending on how the silicon is treated will result in the three most common photovoltaic cells. They are Monocrystalline cells, polychrystalline cells and amorphous cells.

• Monocrystalline cells are the ones most commonly used in domestic solar energy systems. They are connected together to form a grid.
• Polycrystalline cells are less expensive, but are not as productive as their monocrysalline counterpart.
• Amorphous cells are don't need to be built into panel systems or connected in a grid form. They are best known as solar tiles and flexible cells. These cells produce the least energy of the three.

Solar energy is measured in watts and kilowatts. The larger your solar panel, the more cells you will be able to put in it and the more wattage you will produce. Solar panels that are angled correctly and receive the maximum direct sunlight will produce the most energy. If you live in the northern hemisphere, you will want to angle your panels due south.

Things to Consider

Before you begin building your system, you may want to consider getting planning permission. Some conservation areas will require that your panels are not in clear view of other homes. Although there are many incentive and rebate programs that you can take advantage of, it is important to ensure that you have the right to install your panels on your home.

Solar Panels Plus (SPP), designer and manufacturer of innovative solar water heaters, solar air conditioning/heating systems and photovoltaic solar panels, and Solectria Renewables, LLC, today announced a partnership to integrate the company's photovoltaic products in the residential, commercial and utility industries.
Integrating SPP's photovoltaic solar panels with Solectria's grid-tied inverters gives both companies the opportunity to meet growing demand for their products in North America. Installing SPP's photovoltaic solar panels with Solectria's grid-tied inverters will enable residential and commercial customers to take advantage of net-metering to offset the cost of purchased electricity.
"Solar Panels Plus is thrilled to be working closely with Solectria to integrate their award-winning grid-tied inverters with our PV panels," said John Williams, COO, Solar Panels Plus. "Many residential and commercial accounts today are already experiencing a considerable amount of cost savings from a simple installation of our products."
Net-metering works by feeding back solar electricity that is produced beyond what is being used. The excess is fed back into the utility company power grid, for later use and offsetting your total or "net" monthly consumption or charges.
"We look forward to working with Solar Panels Plus on expanding both of our businesses in the commercial and residential market with popular grid-tied solar electric systems," said James Warden, CEO, Solectria Renewables. "Solar Panels Plus develops many of the most efficient photovoltaic panels in the world and with Solectria can offer residential and commercial customers a more affordable solution."
SPP is a developer and manufacturer of solar photovoltaic and solar thermal products and offers a wide range of products that harvest the energy of the sun to save money and reduce harmful emissions into the atmosphere. SPP offers several certified PV and thermal products, and has a number of new products under development. In addition to its current UL-listed photovoltaic panels, SPP has several new PV products currently undergoing UL testing.
